The Eusébio Cup is an annual football tournament held at Sport Lisboa e Benfica's Estádio da Luz in Lisbon, Portugal. Benfica host the tournament in early-mid August, one or two weeks before the regular season kicks off. It is usually Benfica's and the participating team's last pre-season match. The trophy is presented to the winning team by legendary Portuguese footballer Eusébio, to whom this tournament is dedicated. In the 2011 edition, Benfica played against Arsenal. The match took place on 6 August 2011, and Benfica won the cup, with a score of 2–1.

Media coverage

Portuguese television channel SIC has held the match coverage since the tournament began in 2008, however, the 2011 edition was broadcast on TVI.[1]

Trophy

The trophy is made out of glass and bears the name of the tournament and its winners. It also features Eusébio on the top performing one of his trademark shooting techniques. The Eusébio figure is similar to the statue outside of Benfica's current stadium. The trophy is symbolic as it is dedicated to Eusébio who is regarded as the greatest Portuguese footballer of all time for club and country as well as one of the best in the history of football.
